Color Consultation - There are endless color possibilities.  To help you determine the ideal color for you, consult with a local colorist who can offer professional advice based on influencing factors such as skin tone, natural hair color and hair type.   Share pictures for inspiration and to communicate the look you’re after.

Right Toning – Remember this tried and true rule of thumb:  Choose a color that complements your natural skin tone.  While it can be difficult to figure out the right color for you, the most flattering color for you will be one that contains the same color tones as your skin.

Highlights Vs. Single Process – Consider these guidelines when deciding between highlights or a full dye.

        • If you’re happy with your natural base color and simply want to go a shade lighter or darker, your best bet is highlights which will enhance your natural hair color.  Ask your stylist to use a mix of complementary colors to create tonal variation for a more sophisticated look.
        • If you feel that your natural base color washes you out or you simply want to try a whole new look, single process color is in order.   You’ll need double process color if you’ve selected a color that is more than two shades lighter than your natural color. The two-step process first bleaches the hair then dyes it to the new color.
        • Remember, dying your hair will require more time and money for upkeep versus highlights. Hair Styles for Women

DIY - Beautiful hair color doesn’t have to come from the salon. Although you may not get the complete salon treatment, dying your hair at home can save you time and money. A common problem with at-home coloring is an uneven distribution of color throughout the hair. To prevent this, spray a light mist of water onto the ends of your hair before coloring. Hair ends tend to be more porous than hair near your scalp, causing them to absorb more pigment. By dampening your ends, the hair will absorb the same amount of color as the dry hair.

If you’re planning on going more than two shades lighter or darker than your natural hair color, it is highly suggested that you see a professional stylist, as that drastic of a change can be tricky to procure without the help of an experienced eye.
