Since spring brings unexpected weather, a great jacket is a layering essential for your wardrobe. Blazers and sport coats were one of the key fashion trends last fall. And this spring the look is back...but a little less tailored and a lot softer. In addition to this trend there are a few other essential styles to consider.
Pastel - This ladylike look was an editorial favorite. Shown in shimmery, silky fabrics, pastels are ultra-feminine and a welcome break from heavy suits. Look for soft “unconstructed jackets” than can be worn as a suit or paired with your white jeans from last year.
Peplum - Designers played with structured fashions for spring. The flared peplum jacket is a way to show off fancy sewing skills and to highlight a trim waist. Probably the result of the continuing Mad Man craze, but, we don’t think this will be around for long. Buy it on sale if you must.
Military - Always a good fashion investment, a great-fitting military jacket is timelesss. Plenty of olive and khaki will be in the stores this spring, but seek out a bolder color, such as cobalt when adding a new jacket. And gold ornamental buttons are a must!
Bright Trench Coats - Sudden downpours happen. Be prepared with a stylish trench. Scoop up this jacket staple in a bright orange or sunny yellow and you’ll be the object of fashion envy in the next storm.
